AP State General Council of Progressive Youth League (PYL) met at Mriyalguda from March 12th to 14th. The venue of the meeting was named Bhagat Singh Nagar and the venue of the public meeting was named after Com. Battula Venkateshwar Rao. 200 delegates and 50 invitees from 17 districts of the state participated in the meeting. General Council meeting started with PYL President Com. Das hoisting the flag and General Secretary Com. N. Nageshwar Rao paying homage to the martyrs. Meeting was started with Invitation Committee President, Shri P. Subbarao, welcoming the delegates stressing the role of youth in the success of the new democratic revolution and calling on them to oppose the current imperialist offensive.

The Chief Guest, Shri Hargopal (Central University of Hyderabad), in his address analyzed the ‘globalization’ as the occupation of the markets of the underdeveloped countries by the ‘developed’. Globalization means curbs on the industrial activity, diversion of the natural resources and flooding of the markets of underdeveloped countries. So to save the country from impeding catastrophe the youth has to build a powerful movement.

On all three days political classes were conducted. On the first day, CPI(ML)-New Democracy State Leader, Com. V. Venkataramaiah, spoke on “Social Movements and Scientific Thought”. On the same day in another session, AIKMS State Secretary, Com. Diwakar, spoke on ‘Present National and International Trends”. On the second day, IFTU State Vice-President, Com. P. Prasad, had taken the class on “Anti-Imperialist Movements and the Role of Youth” and Com P. Rangarao spoke in another session on “Globalization”.

On the concluding day, delegates from the district narrated their experiences with the people. Com. Nageshwar Rao presented report of the annual activities and explained extension of areas of PYL in Nalgonda and Guntur districts.

The Council approved the following resolutions: (1) Save the swadeshi industries and products and reject the imports and reject Pepsi” and “Coca Cola”, (2) Demand for fulfillment of the existing vacancies in state govts. General Council also formulated a month long programme on the issue of employment.

On the conclusion of the General Council, on 14th March a public meeting was held with 5000 participants. In the public meeting, Com. G. Narsaiah, Yellandu MLA, PYL State President Com. Das, General Secretary Com. N. Nageshwar Rao, Com. Vimala from Virasam, District Human Rights Convenor P. Subbarao, AIKMS District President Com. A. Venkata Narsaiah spoke.
