People’s anger has re-ignited the fight back in Singur against forcible land acquisition by CPM led Govt. It is also exposing the CPM’s double speak on a variety of issues related to acquisition by Govt. of agricultural land to hand over to corporates and MNCs. These clearly substantiate that revisionists go all out to serve the ruling classes.

On the one hand Supreme Court, Central Govt. and Delhi Govt. both foxed and repressed the movement against ceiling of shopkeepers of Delhi to bring it under control. On the other, Wal Mart and Bharti announced a tie up by which this American retail giant would enter Indian markets. In a final irony, the date chosen for this is 15th August 2007. On the heels of this, came news that the British retail giant Tesco was also on the look out for an Indian partner in order to enter India’s markets. Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance has already announced it will be opening ‘chain stores’ to enter the retail sector, and now Birla has also announced its entry.

Bush’s ‘war on terror’ is in focus. Humiliating defeat of Bush’s Republican Party in US elections on November 7 leading to loss of control of both houses of US Parliament has come in the wake of looming defeat in Iraq and Afghanistan, humiliating defeat of Israeli aggressors in Lebanon, rising sentiments of the people against US imperialism in Middle-east, Latin America and other parts of world. “Staying the course” is no longer a viable proposition, US Defence Secretary Rumsfield has been fired and the neo-cons are in disarray with their pet project “Occupation of Iraq” going haywire and Israel licking its wounds after war against Lebanon.
