A sixteen member delegation of CPI (M-L)-New Democracy led by party central leader Com. Sushanta Jha visited Nandigram on 21st March, 2007. The delegation included central leaders of the Party Com. Paltu Sen of West Bengal, Com. Y. S. Rao of Orissa, Com. G. Diwakar of Andhra Pradesh besides leaders like Com. Nirbhay Singh of Punjab, Com. Hiralal of Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal State Secretary Com. Pradeep Singh Thakur and others. The team visited Nandigram area via Tekhali, Gokul Nagar, Adhikari Para, Sonachura, Bhangabera etc. They met and talked with the people of different strata, visited different spots where firing and police atrocities occurred. They attended a public meeting of several thousand people at Sonachura organized by Bhumi Uchhed Birodhi committee where Com. Paltu Sen and Com. G. Diwakar addressed the meeting on behalf of CPI (M-L)- New Democracy.

Later the team visited Nandigram hospital which was full with injured peoples, mainly women, who were victims of Police - CPI(M) joint terror. The team expressed sympathy and solidarity with the injured. The experience gathered by the team is that Nandigram is still boiling. Though people has gained partial victory as the Govt. has been forced to declare that no land would be acquired at Nandigram for industry, but why after so much losses, people are questioning. The peoples are not satisfied with the steps declared by the Govt. but want punishment to those guilty of Nandigram massacre and atrocities. They want not only resignation of Buddhadeb but capital punishment to Buddhadeb, Laxman, Binay and other culprits. The team came to the conclusion that CPI [M) govt. instead of paying respect to peoples' just demand against land acquisition for SEZ and against displacement, took a dubious role and tried to crush people’s resistance by brute force in the name of establishing law and order.

The report heard by the team about killing and atrocities by the joint band of police and CPI (M) is horrible. It is evident that they were particularly cruel towards women and children. Still details about killings, missing persons, rapes etc. are not available. The delegation team felt that an independent enquiry is needed to find out these details.

CPI (M-L) - New Democracy will continue with the country wide movement on following demands.
