Delhi Committee of CPI (ML) New Democracy held a programme at Gandhi Peace Foundation Hall on 26th June ’06 to mark the anniversary of Emergency imposition by India Gandhi. The theme of the meeting was to focus attention on current aspects of fascist repression and civil rights violations by the state. Introducing the topic Com. Aparna said that in the current situation of absence of single party rule and of coalition politics in Centre, the situation of old type of Emergency does not exist. However in several parts of the country, several types of struggles face fascist repression by the state. The worst repression of course is faced by movements led by communist revolutionaries. Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed spoke about Displacement in the name of development, Shri Urmilesh and Shri N.D. Pancholi touched the issues of repression on movements for democratic rights including the right to self determination as is being fought for by Kashmiri people and in the North East. Dr. Animesh Das (President Delhi IFTU) highlighted the repression on working class movements. Shri Laxman Pant (All India Convenor, Nepal Janadhikar Suraksha Samiti) spoke about the repression on Nepali citizens in India in the course of anti monarchy struggle in Nepal, the false cases made against several citizens of Nepal and their harassment for being Maoists. Shri Surendra Mohan (Ex-MP) pointed out that repression on peoples struggles continued and this was a vital part of repression during Emergency.
