Over 200 people held a Dharna under the banner of Muzaffarpur Dist. Committee of AIKMS on 4th July 2001 in front of the office of the District Magistrate. The main demand of the Dharna was the arrest of the culprits of the murder of Bindeshwar Prasad Yadav of Naurali village in Mushaheri block who had led land struggle in Dumri village for quite a long time. In this struggle for 42 acres of land, members of AIKMS have not been allowing the landlord to cultivate the land. So landlord Ashwini Thakur was conspiring to kill the leaders of the movement.

Bindeshwari Yadav had contested the elections for Mukhiya and won. But just before the counting of votes, on the night of 20th May, Bindeshwar Yadav was shot dead outside the counting premises of Muzaffarpur town. His murder created widespread indignation among the people. CPI(ML) – New Democracy and AIKMS leaders visited the area and conducted an enquiry, meeting the people. On enquiry, it became clear that this killing had a direct link with the Dumri land struggle. Landlord goondas, taking advantage of the election atmosphere, killed Bindeshwar Yadav in a pre-planned manner. But the police and administration are doing nothing to arrest the guilty. Laloo Prasad Yadav visited the house of the deceased and assured that the culprits would be arrested within 10 days, but nothing has been done.

Men and women, mostly from Narauli and Dumri villages, participated in the day long Dharna on 4th July. Some lawyers also participated. The  Dharna was addressed by Com. Rudal Ram, Prof. A.P. Singh, Manoj Misra, Coms. Toofani, Garui Shankar Shah, Md. Jabbar and others. Speakers narrated how the killing of Bindeshwar Yadav was linked to Dumri land struggle. They demanded an impartial enquiry and arrest of the Dumri landlord and his goons. They condemned the Govt. for not fulfilling the promise of giving Rs. 1 lakh and employment to one in the family of the deceased. They demanded that ceiling surplus land of Dumri should be distributed forthwith.

The Dharna ended with the resolve to continue the just struggle started by Bindeshwar Yadav and for the punishment of his killers.
