In Muzaffarpur (Bihar), on 30th June 2002, at about midnight, Com. Ramvivek Singh, member of Muzaffarpur District Committee of CPI(ML)-New Democracy, District president of AIKMS and Mukhiya of Paigumbarpur Panchyat was killed brutally by criminals. They represented feudal, contractor and corrupt vested interests. He was shot dead while asleep on a cot outside his residence. He was killed because of his persistent struggle against feudal oppression, corruption of contractors, panchayat and vested interests. His death is a loss for the revolutionary peasant struggle.

On the news of the martyrdom of Com. Ramvivek, thousands of people assembled and blocked the Mahua road from early morning of 1st July in protest against the killing. They demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. Later DM and SP assured arrest of the culprits within 24 hours. This happened in the presence of cabinet minister Mr. Basawan Bhagat, state ministers Virender Prasad and Sital Ram, ex-Minister Kamal Paswan and MP Jainarain Nishad. At about 11 am, the blockade was withdrawn. Party leaders Coms. Rambriksh Ram, Rudal, Uday, Raj Kumar and Sharda Prasad Toofani participated in the blockade and later paid their homage to the martyred comrade. His body was wrapped in the red flag. During cremation thousands of people, party leaders and cadres paid their tributes amidst thunderous slogan shouting.

On 8th July, a Dharna was organized by CPI(ML)-New Democracy in front of Muzaffarpur DM office for failure to honour the promises made on July 1st before thousands of people. The demand was for immediate arrest of the culprits and enquiry into the murder. A six member delegation later met the District Magistrate who assured action. Dharna was presided over by Com. Shrawan Kumar and addressed by Coms. Rudal, Uday, Manoj Misra, Shiv Kumar Gupta, Pramod Thakur, Pramod Chowdhary, Sharda Prasad Toofani, Gouri Shankar Shah and others.

When there was no action, on 29th July a 'Pratirodh Sabha' was organized by District Committee of CPI(ML)-New Democracy and AIKMS at Sonebarsa village along Mahua road. A procession of nearly 500 people reached the meeting place, which was addressed among others by Com. Prakash Das, Vice-president of AIKMS who said that Com. Ramvivek was murdered for standing for the oppressed masses and fighting against oppression, exploitation and corruption. He warned the administration to arrest the culprits otherwise people will take their own steps. Com. Rudal said the death of Com. Ramvivek was as heavy as a mountain. Speakers demanded that the killers of Ramvivek Singh be arrested forthwith and called upon the people to carry on a powerful movement against all types of exploitation and injustice.

Com Ramvivek Singh (45 years), resident of Hussepur village of Sakra police station in Muzaffarpur, came from a middle peasant family. He was attracted to left politics from his student days and became a member of SFI and later joined CPM. Being disenchanted with CPM's revisionist politics he gravitated towards MCPI at the time of its formation. At that time he played a prominent role in struggle for occupation of three hundred acres of surplus land of Shyam Nandan Sahay (Baghi State) by landless and poor peasants and other such struggles  During that struggle he became dissatisfied with local MCPI leadership for their compromising role and searched for a revolutionary politics. Thus in late eighties he joined CPI(ML). Later he became a member of the district committee of the Party. He had participated as a delgate in the Party Congress held in 1996.

In our Party he played a leading role in the struggles of poor villagers of Bakhri- mostly dalits and backwards- against social oppression and for homestead land.  The struggle succeeded in obtaining homestead land and patta for all the villagers. He played an important role in land struggle in Dumri village of Mushaheri block. He had lent a good support to the peasant struggle in East Champaran. Com. Ram Vivek remained single, and his mother and younger brother survive him.
