Since the military occupation of Iraqi cities by the aggressor forces of America and Britain, the liberation struggle of Iraqi people is gaining in intensity. Not a day passes when the Iraqi freedom fighters do not attack the occupation forces of America and not a day passes when American soldiers do not become targets of their attacks. Besides these military attacks, US-UK aggressor forces are facing massive protests by the people in almost all cities of Iraq, protestors demanding that occupation forces quit Iraq. Iraqi people are waging a gallant war against barbaric and very powerful imperialist country and are giving enormous sacrifices in this war. On the other hand, to maintain their military occupation, US-UK occupation forces are firing upon unarmed people, killing the civilians and creating new records of their crime against humanity. With the military occupation of Central Baghdad, the relatively easy phase of US aggression against Iraq has ended. It was never in doubt that massive US Army equipped with latest modern weapons would be able to easily defeat the poor equipped Iraqi Army. In the Gulf War of 1991, US and its allies had severely damaged the military capabilities of Iraq. Since 1991, economic and trade sanctions had been placed against Iraq. So Iraqi Govt. could not utilize its resources for rebuilding its defense capabilities. On the other hand US has been regularly bombing Iraq since 1991 and destroying its military equipments and strategic positions. Thirdly, under the cover of inspections into weapons of mass destruction alleged to have been with Iraq, US has not only ensured further destruction of Iraqi weapons but also gathered detailed information about them including their location. When US had ensured that Iraq does not possess any weapons of mass destruction nor has any capacity to make them in short time, it started making preparations for attack on Iraq. For this it resorted to open and brazen fabrication of reports. On the basis of alleged reports from US and British intelligence agencies it was claimed that Iraq was procuring enriched Uranium from Niger, Iraq has capacity to manufacture weapons of mass destruction within 45 minutes, etc. etc. All along US and British Govts. knew very well that Iraq neither had such weapons nor had the capacity to produce them in short time. In fact, the US-UK aggression is itself a proof of it. If Iraq had any weapons of mass destruction or ability to produce them in short time, the US-UK aggressors had not been in such tearing hurry to attack Iraq. Intensifying Liberation Struggle of Iraqi People US imperialists did collect detailed information of Iraqi weapons, but they ignored patriotic and anti-imperialist resolve of Iraqi people. Therefore while they had a field day in clash of big weapons, they are getting increasingly embroiled in the mire of liberation war of Iraqi people. They grossly underestimated the decisive force of the people and today the struggle of the people is battering them in all parts of Iraq. A large number of US soldiers have died in the attacks by Iraqi fighters since May 1, 2003 when US President Bush had declared end of war. In the beginning US war chieftains sought to dismiss these attacks by the Iraqi fighters saying that some time is bound to be taken in stabilizing the situation. They has hoped that in this some time utilizing their massive military power they would be able to extinguish the flames of struggle and through their powerful media they would be able to create and establish the myth of liberation of Iraq among the people of the world. But the reality of the struggle of Iraqi people has forced them to admit that they are facing an organized guerilla warfare in Iraq. The US commander in Iraq had to acknowledge this guerilla war whose organizational and strike capabilities are increasingly improving according to him. US-UK soldiers are being targeted in all parts of Iraq- in South, North, Central and Western Iraq. National liberation struggle of Iraqi people is once again proving that through guerilla war a weaker force can face a stronger enemy and defeat it. US imperialists have forgotten the lessons taught to them by the people Indo-China and they will have to relearn them now. To overcome this intensifying guerilla war of Iraqi people, US imperialist occupiers are killing the Iraqi patriots and publicizing their killing to demoralize the Iraqi people. US Army claimed to have killed tow sons of President of Iraq Saddam Hussein, Uday and Qusay and their dead bodies were shown for many days on the electronic and print media throughout the world. US imperialist chieftains forget this elementary fact that this martyrdom will only add strength to the national liberation struggle of Iraqi people. Rather than undermining the position of Saddam Hussein among people of Iraq, this martyrdom will establish it more strongly. The supreme sacrifice by the fighters for freedom has earned support and appreciation from the people in all countries and in all times. US-UK have since long conspired to utilize Shia-Sunni conflict in Iraq to stabilize their military occupation of that country. Their conspiracies to this effect have since beginning foiled by the unity of the Iraqi people against US aggression. US-British forces are encountering protests and attacks both in Shia and Sunni dominated areas. It is the result of the united opposition of Iraqi people that US imperialists are finding it difficult to even enact the farce of 'puppet regime' in Iraq. To face the intensifying guerilla war of Iraqi people, US Admn. is pressurizing countries like India to send their troops to Iraq. US imperialists want to utilize soldiers of these poor countries to establish their colonial rule in Iraq; so that troops of these countries face the attacks of Iraqi patriots while US utilizes its Army for controlling the oil wells and maintaining control over central power. US imperialists wants to imitate the old British colonial policy who had used soldiers from the countries of this subcontinent for establishing and maintaining their world empire. This design of US imperialists is not much successful as owing to widespread opposition of the people of these countries, Govts. of these countries are expressing their unwillingness due to absence of UN mandate. For obtaining UN mandate US will have to give more concessions to other imperialist powers which is not willing to give at present. Deepening Contradictions of Imperialist System The US imperialist military aggression against Iraq is a product of deepening crisis of the imperialism leading to intensification of the major contradiction of imperialist system and this military aggression has in turn further intensified these contradictions. Now it is clear as day light that US economy is getting embroiled in deepening economic crisis. Since 1999 US economy has been in stagnation and since 2001 it has gone into recession. Now the very reality of the economic upswing of 90s is being doubted as one artificially fuelled. Despite some changes here and there this trend is continuing. Unemployment is rising while domestic demand is stagnant and even the oxygen of interest free loans is not able to revive it. The total US debt is about 7 trillion US$ while its annual deficit is about 500 billion US$. Despite this heavy deficit and debt US economy is managing to pull on due to its control over large part of world market, its monopoly over international currency market and resultantly large influx of foreign capital into USA. Domination of US dollar over world currency market is an important aspect; it is consumed world wide but controlled by the US Govt. alone. This monopoly gives US Govt. the capacity to 'absorb' huge deficit. At present currency of no single imperialist power is in position to challenge US dollar. Launching of Euro by the European Union in 1999 raised the possibility of some currency standing upto dollar. The total domestic product of EU countries is larger than that of US and these countries too have a large share of world market. Still Euro could not stand upto dollar. One of the important reason for it, besides differences among EU countries, was dollar monopoly over the petroleum trade. Oil trade plays a big role in determining the international currency. No country can postpone its oil requirement and it has to be paid in cash in the currency acceptable to the seller country. So every oil importing country has to keep adequate stock of the currency acceptable to oil exporting countries. Almost the whole oil trade is in dollar. In 2001 Iraq Govt. put the condition to accept payment for its oil in Euro. Despite US threats, Saddam Hussein Govt. rather than bowing to these threats, decided to close down oil production. Taking cue from Iraq two other important oil exporting countries Iran and Venezuela started taking steps to switch over to Euro. Thus while Euro started getting strong, US Admn. felt very uneasy. Dollar empire is an important pillar of US imperialism and Iraq's "terrorist act" of hitting at it made US aggression against Iraq an immediate necessity. Iraq Aggression is Part of US Global Strategy As we have analyzed earlier, US attack against Iraq is a part of global strategy of to secure its world hegemony. This strategy is being adopted by declining yet sole superpower in a unipolar world. As a part of this strategy, US imperialism wants to control the oil resources and trade routes including oil supply routes in the world. It is not accidental that over past years the centre of US strategy have been middle east, oil rich countries of Latin America, Balkan countries around Black Sea and Central Asian countries surrounding Caspian Sea. Besides US imperialists want to bring under their control big part of natural resources and cheap labour power of third world countries. It is establishing its military bases in all parts of the globe. The aim of this US strategy is to ensure control over world market by its Multinational Corporations and to control the competing imperialist powers. Its aim is to prevent its competitors from coming to a position of challenging its hegemony through its control over the world trade. US imperialists have termed this strategy as "war against international terrorism." The real aim of this US "war against terrorism" is to terrorize the world. Hence this war is intensifying all the major contradictions of imperialist system. Let us take US attack against Iraq. Despite all threats, pressures and allurements US could not take approval of UN Security Council for its attack against Iraq. Even toady US is not able to get the UN approval for its military occupation of Iraq. Second Gulf War has intensified the contradiction among the imperialist powers. While their contradictions over the last decade were confined to trade disputes, they have now developed to political level. Though as yet they have not aggravated to military conflict, but their further intensification is imperative. The formation of European force by France, Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg in the aftermath of Iraq war is a pointer. On the other hand Japan too though in support of America, is ready to send its Army abroad and is developing its military power. Russia and China are too are developing their military power and through Shanghai Six want to check the US influence in Central Asian countries. It is obvious that one of the aim of US attempts to increase its influence is Central Asia is to encircle these countries. After the US aggression against Iraq, the picture of imperialist world appears somewhat different. Still US imperialism is the sole superpower, yet other imperialist countries are no longer willing to accept its leadership. Its main reason is that US imperialism is not willing to give them "proper" share of the world resources and market and it can not be so. The division of share among imperialist countries does not take place through 'peaceful negotiations' but according to their military and economic power. Uneven development of this power intensifies conflicts among imperialist powers. Other imperialist countries are clearly apprehending that US control over oil resources and supply routes will keep them perpetually dependent on USA and will increase difficulties in their path of increasing their share in the world market. Main imperialist economies- USA, EU and Japan are afflicted with stagnation and recession. They are putting the burden of their economic crisis on the shoulders of the working class. The wages and benefits of workers, workers are facing retrenchment and the number of unemployed is rising. To crush the struggles of working people, repressive laws are being framed in the name of "war against terrorism". Repression on people's struggles is increasing and immigrant workers are their special targets. The contradiction between capital and labour is intensifying in the imperialist countries. US military aggression has in particular intensified the contradiction between imperialism, particularly US imperialism and third world countries. US has established its direct military rule over Afghanistan and Iraq. According to US Admn. this occupation is going to last long. Along with this, US has sent its troops to Philippines and its military advisors to Nepal and Colombia. In all these countries there are sharp struggles under the leadership of revolutionary communists. To make military bases in third world countries and to extend military 'assistance' to the reactionary rulers of these countries in crushing the people's struggles is the most important part of this "endless war" of US imperialism. It is significant that in 21st century there is 'return' of the direct military rule by the imperialist powers. Absence of socialist countries has made imperialism unbridled. Along with military occupations colonial thesis of "white men's burden" is also sought to be revived. Due to US aggressions there is growing people's anger against US imperialism in third world countries. On the other hand US military campaign has increased the US pressure over comprador ruling classes of these countries. Their surrender before US imperialism is growing and the neocolonial loot and pluder is increasing. The main targets of US war are third world countries, therefore struggles of the people of third world countries are the main force of the anti-imperialist struggle. Though there has been welcome development of struggles of working class in imperialist countries, yet even today oppressed nations and people of Asia, Africa and Latin America continue to be the storm centres of anti-imperialist revolutionary struggles. Struggle of the people of third world countries against imperialist exploitation and plunder and struggle of workers in imperialist countries against attacks by MNCs and Govts. has strengthened the base of world-wide struggle against imperialism, particularly US imperialism. Support Liberation War of Iraqi People; Oppose US Military Interventions Iraqi people are waging a life and death struggle against US military occupation. Iraq, the home of the most ancient civilization in the world, is facing an imperialist superpower which does not value world civilization, human rights and sovereignty of the countries before its profit greed. The loot and destruction of Iraqi Museum under the supervision of US military has exposed the barbaric and inhuman face of US imperialism to the whole world. Intensifying struggle of Iraqi people is strengthening the anti-imperialist forces in the world and increasing the difficulties of US imperialist chieftains. Position of Tony Blair, partner in US aggression and British Prime Minister has become very precarious and voices are rising from within his ruling Labour Party. His role in preparing false reports for attack on Iraq and suicide by scientist Kelly has undermined his position. Even in USA, anti-Bush voices have started rising after he had successfully drowned the anti-war movement in chauvinism and had garnered public support by painting the rosy picture of easy victory. Economic crisis is deepening, queues of unemployed lengthening and dreams of world empire are having to contend with hard ground reality. US military intervention is everywhere facing wide opposition. People are opposing US military intervention in Nepal, Philippines and Colombia. Protest in third world countries against US imperialism is increasing. US puppet rulers are also being targets of the people's ire. There is a need to further intensify struggle against main enemy of the world people, US imperialism. Iraqi people are giving big sacrifices in the struggle against US imperialism. In support of the national liberation war of Iraqi people, all progressive, democratic, patriotic and justice loving people should intensify the struggle against US imperialism. Iraqi people are not alone in this struggle, all justice loving people of the world are with them. |
