Colombia: War By Reactionary Regime PDF Print E-mail

In the recently held Presidential election in Columbia, a war mongerer US protege was elected President. He had won the approval of US imperialists and reactionaries with the promise of intensification of war against leftist revolutionary forces controlling substantial part of the countryside in Columbia.

In the aftermath of US led “global war against terrorism”, a euphemism for US led aggression against third world countries specially targeting the revolutionary movements there, Columbian Govt. of Pastrana broke off its peace process with the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Columbia) having failed in imposing its “peace” on the them. On February 20, 2002 the then President Pastrana announced breaking off the peace process and ordered the military to enter the demilitarized zone. He used the pretext of alleged kidnapping of Senator Jorge Eduardo Gechem Turbay’s plane by the FARC. That this is a mere pretext is proved by the fact that this alleged kidnapping has not been confirmed by any source.

It is clear that Columbian reactionaries are not prepared to continue peace process which is desired by the majority of the people of Columbia. The Columbian reactionaries are not willing to address to the real issues of the people, of the poor peasants and workers and other toiling sections and are not ready to even talk of the real independence from US imperialism. It is noteworthy that Pastrana had won last elections on the promise of starting peace process with FARC and other revolutionary organizations.

In fact Columbian reactionary rulers were not sincere towards the peace process.  Mutually agreed measures during peace talks had not been implemented. It was clear that Columbian reactionaries were bidding for time to intensify their war against revolutionary forces and seek out if there were some collaborators from among their ranks.

With the US declaring war against people of third world countries, the period of negotiations was over. Recent presidential elections have drawn to close this period and the rulers have yet again embarked on the path of military solution of the problem with the renewed backing of US imperialism. Imperialist Govts. have lent support to the Columbian reactionaries by declaring FARC as a ‘terrorist’ organization and promising military and financial support to the reactionary govt.

It is clear that the Columbian reactionaries  will not come back to the peace process unless they are forced by the revolutionary armed struggle of Columbian people against US imperialism and its collaborators.
