In Muzaffarpur district of Bihar, a militant demonstration was organized on 9th April in front of Mushahari Block by the area committee of CPI(ML) - New Democracy in protest against widespread corruption in development work and to press for the burning demands of the people. More than 500 people, including women in sizeable numbers, armed with traditional weapons marched through Pusa Road chanting militant slogans and converging at Block office, Mushahari. Demonstrators were so angry that the doors, windows and furnitures of Block office bore the mark of the wrath of the people. The demands were mainly for corruption-free development works through Block office, making work through panchayat free from bureaucratic control, public supervision over development work of panchayats, against corruption in public distribution system, distribution of ceiling surplus land particularly of Dumri and Rahua to the poor, waiving of loans of poor and middle peasants, guarantee of minimum wage, mutation of land at panchayat level, stoppage to freezing of subsidy for peasants, homestead land for homeless, making Mushahari cremation ground free from encroachment, against communalism particularly massacre of minorities in Gujarat and attack on reporters, for withdrawal of POTA etc. The gathering was addressed by Com. A.P. Singh, Panchayat Samiti members Sarjugia Devi and Shiv Kumar Gupta, Philip Rozario of PDSU, Com. Rudal and Manoj Misra- District Committee members, Com. Uday, Com. Sarada Prasad Tufani, Com. Jaykishan Roy and others. Com. Sravan Kumar presided. Later a delegation met BDO and CO. They promised to fulfil most of the demands under their jurisdiction.
