Maharashtra State Conference of AIKMS was held on May 3, 2005 at Biloli Talluk headquarters in Nanded district. Nearly 225 delegates attended the Conference, 70 of them women. Conference commenced with flag hoisting by AIKMS state president Com. Arvind Deshpande. Welcoming the delegates, Com. Venkatarao Khargekar, Chairman of Reception Committee, explained how peasantry of Nanded are exploited by landlords and asked peasants to fight against it. Inaugurating the Conference, AIKMS All-India Secretary, Com. Y. Sambasiva Rao, explained that due to implementation of WB-WTO policies, all sectors including agrarian sector are facing severe crisis. To save the country, he called for intensifying struggle for land reforms and quitting WTO. The Chief Guest of Inaugural session, R.V. Bhuskute, retired tehsildar, spoke elaborately about how the land reforms in Maharashtra have been formal and how they are being diluted. He asked the peasantry to fight for land by joining AIKMS and strengthening it. State secretary of AIKMS, Com. Dev Rao, gave the report of work since the last conference which was adopted by delegates. Later , a new 7 member committee was elected with Com. Arvind Deshpande as President, Com. Dev Rao as General Secretary, Com. Ganesh Mergu as Joint Secretary and 4 committee members. In the evening a procession was organized which culminated in a public meeting. Addressing the meeting, Com. V. Venkataramaiah, member, CEC of AIKMS, elaborately explained how the ruling classes are implementing WTO, WB policies bringing ruin to agricultural sector. He called upon the peasants to get organized in AIKMS and fight for land and other legitimate demands. IFTU state secretary Com. Ravi Joshi explained how the working class is being deprived of their employment and rights due to new industrial policies. Com. Dev Rao spoke in detail about the police repression on peasantry when they agitate for their demands. He called upon the peasants to fight back the repressive measures. |
