The National Committee of the Indian Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU) at its meeting in` Eluru on March 16th and 17th, 2005 decided that the National Conference of IFTU would be held in November 2005 at Vijainagram (Andhra Pradesh). State Conferences would be held in September-October 2005 while factory level, area level and district conferences should be completed in April-May 2005. The first day of the Conference shall be marked by a rally through Vijainagram and mass meeting thereafter. This will be followed by delegate conference for next two days. IFTU National Committee issued its call to Indian working class on May Day from this meeting- — Oppose aggressions, occupations and bullying by American imperialism. — Fight for equal wages for equal work. — Oppose capitulationism, oppose reformism. Forge struggling unity of working class. IFTU National Committee also decided to observe a protest week in August 2005 on the IFTU charter of demands. Major demands include opposing plastic bags for packing in Govt. sector in place of jute bags. Other demands include rejection of anti-worker changes being proposed by Govt. in labour laws. IFTU National Committee discussed the reports of jute sector and also reports of struggles from other sectors. The meeting formulated its approach to fight back the attempts of the management of Nellimarla jute mill to attack workers' wages under the threat of closure. |
