AP State Committee of CPI(ML)-New Democracy paid its homage to the revolutionary memory of Com. Gorakala Rambabu, a senior comrade of Srikakulam struggle who expired on 12th April 2001 after prolonged sickness.

Born in Rajam village of Kotturu Mandal, Com. Rambabu joined the communist party in 1962 after coming in contact with Com. Pyla Vasudev Rao. He organized night school for poor peasants and used his own house as a party centre. In 1965 he became a member of Taluka committee of Rythu Sangham and was later elected as Sarpanch of Rajam village.

With spring thunder of Naxalbari over India, Srikakulam District Committee of the then CPM joined the revolutionaries. Com. Rambabu too followed suit. He became commander of the armed squad of Sompeta area as a part of the Srikakulam peasant armed struggle. He always remained in the forefront of struggle and started forest movement at Uddanam, Mandasa, Mahendragiri forest areas. Com. Rambabu brought all his family members into the revolutionary movement. Due to his efforts Com. Chandramma and K. Ganapathy joined the revolutionary politics.

In 1980 he was arrested on the information of an informer and faced all sorts of tortures. He was sentenced for life and spent 13 years in jail from where he was released in 1993. After his release from jail, he announced that he would “continue in the revolutionary politics only.”

Com. Rambabu was not only a brave political leader, he was also a composer of songs. His conviction in revolution remained firm throughout. He spent a long span of 40 years in revolutionary politics having complete faith in Marxsim-Leninism-Mao Zedong Thought.
