CPI(ML) New Democracy demands: 1. The scrapping of the nuclear deal and resignation of Manmohan Singh. 2. No to strategic tie up with US imperialism 3. Parties opposing the deal give commitment to scrap the deal when in direct or indirect power On July 12, 2008 at 1130 AM, activists from Delhi Committee of CPI(ML) New Democracy held a demonstration at Parliament Street New Delhi against the Manmohan Singh led UPA Government’s racing to finalize the anti-national India-US Nuclear Deal. This deal is one more step towards tying India to the apron strings of US strategic interests and US imperialism’s foreign policy. The protestors burnt an effigy of Manmohan Singh and raised slogans of “Manmohan-Sonia traitors and liars!” “Manmohan Singh- Resign!” and “No to strategic tie up with America!” Secretary of Delhi State party, Com. Aparna spoke about, how the Manmohan Singh government is trying to reduce the entire debate on the very serious issues raised by the US-India Nuclear deal to merely a case of borderline numbers in Parliament. Not only does it mean that US imperialism is going to decide India’s nuclear policy, by tying it to American strategic designs; it is riding rough shod over the Indian people’s proud history of anti imperialist struggles. The need of the hour is to mobilize people of the country to oppose both the nuclear deal and the strategic tie up with America. Dr. Mrigank, (President, Naujawan Bharat Sabha) spoke about the huge costs of India to separate civilian and military facilities, it invests the US with the right to scrap the deal with return of all facilities and no compensation of our costs of separation if the US President decrees India’s actions are hostile to its foreign policy, or will further India’s own nuclear military programme. He dismissed the BJP’s contention ‘of an Indian law’ to save us from the Hyde Act, which binds US government’s nuclear deals with India questioning as to what difference it would make so long as US continues to be guided by the Hyde Act and called this BJP proposal as a ploy of deception. Ridiculing the UPA government’s contention of nuclear energy as an ‘alternative’, he said it is an expensive form; even the US projects it for less than 3% of our needs; for India, solar, wind and small hydro electric projects are the viable options.
Dr. Animesh Das (President Delhi, IFTU Committee) demanded that all parties opposing the deal should also commit that they will scrap the deal once they came to power or support any Govt. in future. Regarding the BJP, the country is still wondering about their pronouncements to quit WTO and to throw Enron into the Arabian Sea, which they made while out of power. Similarly the Parliamentary Left can hardly expect the people to forget that Indo-US military exercises were conducted, even in Kolkata, military ties with Israel expanded during the UPA –Left rule and The Left supported UPA government voted against Iran at IAEA in clear subservience to the US. The Left supported UPA government has been supporting the US led puppet regime of Karzai in Afghanistan and training their military. He said that parliamentary Left has to answer why it permitted the Manmohan Singh government to approach the IAEA in November 2007 when the anti-national nuclear agreement and Hyde Act dictates were crystal clear-was it not for non intervention in repression on Nandigram peasantry? |
