Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist)-New Democracy held a protest demonstration today i.e. on November 13, 2007 at Parliament Street (Delhi) from noon onwards to condemn the bloodbath, displacement, arson and violence let loose by CPM against peasantry resisting land acquisition in Nandigram. Instead of honouring the democratic rights of the peasantry against its displacement from its lands, the peasantry is facing Operation extermination and Displacement at the hands of CPM hoodlums with police, in an orgy of violence orchestrated, led and executed by CPM cadres and goondas and under tutelage of the top CPM leadership. CPI(ML)-New Democracy condemns the violence let loose on the peasantry of Nandigram by CPM, and demands resignation of CPM led West Bengal Govt. Police and armed CPM cadres must be removed from the area; the cadres and leaders guilty of violence in March ’07 and in Amgachia on 10.11.2007 must be punished. The Party demands immediate revocation of SEZ Act 2005.

Holding aloft placards and banners, activists and people present raised slogans against SEZ Act 2005 and CPM’s violence in Nandigram. Students, youth and several intellectuals participated apart from the workers and party activists in the demonstration organized by Delhi Committee of the Party. An effigy of CPM led West Bengal Govt. was burnt.

Speakers at the demonstration said that defeated in pro-MNC, pro-SEZ moves by the fighting peasantry of Nandigram organized under the banner of Bhoomi Uchhed Pratirodh Committee (BUPC), CPM has bared its fascist fangs and again let loose an organized blood-bath at Nandigram (West Bengal) and unleashed a reign of terror and killing on the peasantry which dared to protest forcible acquisition of its land.

This second operation is aimed to exterminate them into submission, for the service of anti-communist Salem Group, MNC from Indonesia. CPM Chief Minister had signed the agreement with Salem group chanting his freedom from ‘dogmatic Marxism’. But CPM has nothing to do at all with Marxism- pro-SEZ, pro-MNC, anti-peasant, and resorting to fascist measures to crush democratic expression of peasantry refusing displacement! The arrogance of the CPM’s fascist response finds reflection in their physical attacks on the political leaders and activists of the democratic rights movement in addition to their violence unleashed by them on resisting peasantry. Armed gangs of CPM cadres with active connivance of police marched into the area killing those resisting, burning the houses and destroying the homes and property of the activists of BUPC activists besides of resisting peasants. The CPM armed hoodlums fired upon the peaceful rally of peasants again in connivance with police.

The speakers condemned the violence against women esp. gang rapes by CPM cadres and goondas. This is especially farcical when their leaders take high posturing on women’s question.

The abuse of the state police- they watch the violence and take part in it- all assisting the CPM’s designs acting as their uniformed hoodlums paid at the cost of the people, is as in Modi’s Gujarat in 2002, Sharad Pawar and Bal Thackerey’s Mumbai, and Delhi of Congress in 1984. CPM, power hungry and mad at the resistance of the peasantry, has no regard of the dissent from sections of their ‘Left’ Front allies on their violent suppression of peasantry. The conduct of CPM may surprise those who refuse to see them as representatives of ruling classes of the country.

For the second time, the Governor of West Bengal has been forced to remonstrate against the CPM goons’ violence in what W. Bengal’s Home Secretary has termed a “war zone”. Civil rights activists, several sensitive intellectuals and known figures from the field of art and culture have stood up against barbaric repression let loose by CPM. Even they were not spared; rounded up and taken to police station. And the violence is unashamed, unmitigated and on. From three killings on 9.11.07 with gang rapes of two women by CPM goons to armed attack on 10.11.07 on a peaceful rally by BUPC resulting in high number of casualties in this Amagachia massacre with police assistance. When the peasants protested the CPM firing outside Nandigram police station the police were also ready with tear gassing and lathi charge. Media has been banned from Nandigram by CPM dictate. Rule of terror is on in Nandigram.

Nandigram is an important chapter in the multiple experiences coming up of the peasantry engaged in anti-acquisition struggles thereby questioning the model of development  being pursued by the ruling classes. It is also a chapter in exposing CPM’s ruling class, pro-imperialist character and fascist nature of its repression. The Central Govt.’s acquiescence in this murder of people and their democratic rights is all orchestrated by rulers of India to crush the struggle of the people against pro-imperialist policies.

Nandigram is fighting- peasants in their tens of thousands are fighting back the CPM. Whole of Bengal is witnessing protests against CPM’s terrorism against the people which are going to intensify.

CPI(ML)-New Democracy strongly criticizes the role of  Manmohan Singh led UPA Govt. It is apparent that Manmohan Singh. is using suppression of the Nandigram peasantry’s rights to improve his equation with CPM and buy respite for his Govt. and his Nuclear Deal. Despite the Governor being forced to open condemnation, the sending of Central forces was delayed to the very last and the constitutional rights of the peasantry of Nandigram allowed to be crushed.

Allahabad (PTI): Addressing a demonstration staged by the CPI(ML) New democracy in protest against the recent happenings in Nandigram, Secretary of UP State  Committee Com. Ashish Mital criticized  the Left Front for softening its stand on the Indo-US nuclear deal charging that the alliance has changed its track to seek UPA's help in saving its "anti-people" regime in West Bengal. An effigy of West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was burnt amidst anti-Left Front slogans.

"There seems to be a deal behind the deal. It appears that the Left Front, facing a crisis in West Bengal over the Nandigram issue, has struck a bargain with the UPA that it will go soft on the nuclear deal and in return, the Congress-led coalition will help it in retaining its hold over West Bengal despite the excesses committed there," Ashish Mittal said.

"The recent developments must serve as an eye-opener to the people of the country who have for long been fooled by the CPI and CPI(M)," he added.
