A land struggle has been going on in Tangadanch Zoopal Bangla Mandal in Kurnool district, for the past two years for 1.6 thousand acres of land, which belongs to the seed farm of the Govt. CPI(ML) - New Democracy took up the struggle which is now close to victory. The irrigation department had started a seed farm to produce seeds in this land. Nearly 1.5 thousand workers were working on this farm. Due to the policies of the Govt., the farm, which had been working for the last 8 years, has been closed down. As a result all the workers became jobless. Earlier, this land was cultivated by the poor people before the Govt. started the farm. Though the seed farm had provided temporary employment to the people, after the closure they were unemployed without any other resource. The land which was used for the farm and which was now lying idle, could be issued for irrigation purpose for the poor people to employ themselves. With this in view, the CPI(ML) - New Democracy and the AIKMS started land struggle at Tangadanch at the end of 1999. Having formed an organizational committee named “Land Occupation Struggle of Tangadanch”, the poor people have been struggling in different forms for the past two years. Com. G. Narsaiah, the Andhra Pradesh State Legislator, had also raised the issue in the assembly, stressing the need for land distribution to the poor.

On 15th August 2002, six hundred landless people gathered at the Collector’s office of Nellore district and organized a dharna on the demand of land distribution of Tangadanch. In response to it, the Collector declared that out of 1.6 thousand acres of land, he would be agreeing for land distribution of 500 acres, for which he reported that he had sent proposals to the Govt. for endorsement. He also promised to look into the matter of distribution of the rest of the land.

The Struggle Committee Convenor, Com. P. Gokari, and the State General Secretary of AIKMS, Com. Diwakar met the Commissioner of Agriculture and submitted a memorandum on land distribution on 2nd August, to which the Commissioner responded positively. To fulfill these promises, which were the result of the struggle, the Committee is continuing the struggle till the demand is met.
