Rohtas : Thousands March for Land and Forest Rights

Thousands of landless peasants, dalits, backwards, minorities, and adivasis marched on September 14, 2020 at Sasaram (Bihar) and gheraoed the District Collectorate Rohtas to assert their traditional rights over land, water and forest resources and to demand distribution of ceiling surplus, share cropping, benami and Bihar govt. lands. The protest rally organized by District AIKMS began at 12 noon, from railway ground Sasaram and proceeded along old GT Road to assemble at the Collectorate ground.

The rallyists were addressed by acting District AIKMS President Com. Sanjay Kumar, who announced that people have not come here to beg for alms but to assert their rights and to blow the trumpet of their struggles. Joint secretary Com. Ramesh Paswan spoke about the govt. not providing any employment to the youth and demanded that all the closed industries of Rohtas should be revived. District president Com. Shankar Singh demanded that the FIR lodged against Com. Ayodhya Ram and other participants in Bhadara land struggle be withdrawn unconditionally. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Vichar Manch Convener, Rajesh Paswan and Janwadi Auto Chalak Workers Union, GS Dinesh Kumar supported the demands of the peasants.

The leaders said that the today the fascist administration is labeling all forces who demand progressive land reforms as criminals. They said that tribals are being uprooted from their traditional forest abode, but they are fighting back resolutely.

NBS leader Ravi Thakur, AIKMS district Vice Presidents Rajesh Paswan and Ram Bali Singh and others also addressed the gathering. A charter of demands was presented the District Magistrate.
