Dear Sir,
We the following nine political parties and political mass organizations belonging to the state of Punjab wish to Express our serious concern and bring some facts for your kind consideration and immediate action. As already secular, democratic and left intellectuals and eminent personalities from various walks of life have raised the issue of terror let loose by Indian government, on toiling masses of India.
When whole world is facing a serious crisis because of pandemic, Corona, our government is pushing its own Fascist political agenda. Utilizing the situation arising out of lockdown imposed in the name of fighting of corona it is muzzling all the voices of dissent .intellectuals and Democratic rights activists like Gautam Navlakha, Anand Teltumbde has been put behind the bars by falsely implicating in Bhima Koregaon case. Senior journalist and editor of “The Wire” and ex editor of “The Hindu” Vardarajan is also implicated in false case in utter pardesh. Similarly a false case has been put up against human rights activist, advocate Prashant Bhushan and Gopi Nath Kanan, ex IAS . Activists of anti CAA ,NPR and NRC movement and members of Jamia coordination, Safoora Zargar, Meeran Haider, Haider Saifi and Ishrat Jahan has been arrested and sent to jail by falsely implicating in cases related to north east Delhi .photo journalist of Kashmir has been arrested for her post on social media. Many students and ex student of universities have been arrested, including Umar Khalid who is booked under UAPA. Apart from these people like Telugu poet Varbara Rao, Sudha Bhardwaj and others are jailed for their political beliefs.
This is patently a Fascist approach which is devastatingly dangerous for the political and social fabric of our country.
Our country is very serious situation. On the one side Covid 19 is fast spreading, on the other economy of the country has come to a grinding halt because of ill prepared ,sudden and unplanned lockdown which could have been avoided by ceiling our borders for foreigners and quarantining all Indians coming from abroad in February itself. But government failed in it. This has resulted in migrant workers stranded thousands miles away from their native homes, hungry and penniless. Now it is solely depending on lockdown and using it suppress the people and muzzle dissent.
We request you to save the social and political fabric of our country direct the union government to:
- Release the Democratic rights activist from the jails
- Release all arrested for their political beliefs falsely implicated in Bheema Coregaon case
3. Release all activists of movement against CAA, NPR and NRC implicated in East Delhi violence cases.
- Withdraw all cases registered against democratic and political activists
- Repeal all draconian laws like UAPA, AFSPA and others.
- Punish policeman guilty of unconstitutional and illegal activities.
- Full payment of train fare to migrant workers returning home .
